- Śauri - Kṛṣṇa is called Śauri because he comes in the line of King Śūrasena (śūrasya apatyam iti | śūra + iñ | viṣṇuḥ). King Śūrasena is the father of Vasudeva, and thus the grandfather of Kṛṣṇa. King Śūrasena is mentioned in SB 10.1.27.
- Further, Śūrasena could also be taken as śūrāh senāḥ yasya saḥ śūrasenaḥ - one whose army is full of heroes, he is Śūrasena.

DeleteAwesome. Thank you.
DeleteVery nice explanation. Is this name somewhere mentioned in the śāstra for Kṛṣṇa, or from where do we know that it is a name used for Kṛṣṇa? Would be inspiring to see more such elaborated explanations from you on Kṛṣṇa's different names.
ReplyDeleteThank you encouraging. Yes the name Śauri is mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatam. For e.g., please take a look at SB 10.77.13.
